بديع حُسنٍ غريب وصفٍ

بلا مثالٍ ولا نظيرِ

بلا مثالٍ ولا نظيرِ

Wondrous in beauty, rare in qualities,

Without likeness or equal.

فمن منيرٍ على مُطيبٍ

فمن منيرٍ على مُطيبٍ

ومن هضيمٍ على وَثيرِ

ومن هضيمٍ على وَثيرِ

So, a radiant part above a fragrant one,

And a slender part above a soft, full one.

يضحك عن لؤلؤٍ نظيمٍ

يضحك عن لؤلؤٍ نظيمٍ

ينطق عن لؤلؤٍ نَثيرِ

ينطق عن لؤلؤٍ نَثيرِ

He smiles, revealing strung pearls;

He speaks, revealing scattered pearls.

مُدير كأسٍ حكت وحاكى

مُدير كأسٍ حكت وحاكى

شهابَ نارٍ وشخصَ نُورِ

شهابَ نارٍ وشخصَ نُورِ

A cupbearer—the cup resembled, and he resembled,

A flame of fire and a figure of light.

فأسكَرَ القومَ دَورُ كأسٍ

فأسكَرَ القومَ دَورُ كأسٍ

وكان سكري من المُديرِ

وكان سكري من المُديرِ

So the circling cup made the company drunk,

Yet my drunkenness came from the cupbearer.
