لِم إذا ما مررتَ تِهتَ علينا

وجعلتَ الطريق غيرَ الطريقِ

وجعلتَ الطريق غيرَ الطريقِ

Why, whenever you pass, do you act haughtily toward us,

Why is it when you pass by you glance at me

And change your path to another path,

And you take a road other than the road

وتلفَّتَّ كالغزالة ذعراً

وتلفَّتَّ كالغزالة ذعراً

وتثنَّيتَ كالقضيب الرشيقِ

وتثنَّيتَ كالقضيب الرشيقِ

And glance around like a gazelle in fear,

And you turn like a frightened gazelle

And sway like a graceful bough?

And you bend like a slender branch

لك عِلمٌ بأنَّني بك أَلهُو

لك عِلمٌ بأنَّني بك أَلهُو

أنا واللَهِ فوق شوق المَشُوقِ

أنا واللَهِ فوق شوق المَشُوقِ

You know that I amuse myself with you;

You know that I am obsessed with you

By God, I surpass the lovesick in longing.

I swear by God beyond the longing of the ardent lover
