وذيand one possessing ظِلالٍshade كأنَّهas though he were
وذي ظِلالٍ كأنَّه
بستانa garden حُسنٍof beauty فيin الزَّهرthe blossoms منقوشُpatterned
بستان حُسنٍ في الزَّهر منقوشُ
And one possessed of shade, as though he were
A garden of beauty, patterned with blossoms.
وروضةand a meadow الياسمينof jasmine عارِضُهُhis cheek
وروضة الياسمين عارِضُهُ
وهوand it بلحظby the glance of الرقيبthe watcher مخدوشُscratched
وهو بلحظ الرقيب مخدوشُ
His cheek is a meadow of jasmine,
And it is scratched by the watcher's glance.
والدرُّand pearls فيin ثغرهhis mouth منابتُهtheir growing places
والدرُّ في ثغره منابتُه
والوردand roses فيon وجنَتَيهhis two cheeks مفروشُspread out
والورد في وجنَتَيه مفروشُ
And pearls grow within his mouth,
And roses are spread upon his cheeks.
وقدand indeed زهاhas flourished فيon جبينهhis brow أبداًalways
وقد زها في جبينه أبداً
عنقودُa cluster صدغٍof temple hair عليهover it معروشُtrellised
عنقودُ صدغٍ عليه معروشُ
And on his brow has always flourished
A cluster of temple hair, trellised over it.
