وتفّاحةٍ من سوسنٍ صِيغَ نصفُها

وتفّاحةٍ من سوسنٍ صِيغَ نصفُها

ومن جُلَّنارٍ نصفُها وشقائقِ

ومن جُلَّنارٍ نصفُها وشقائقِ

And an apple, half of which was fashioned from lilies,

Half of it fashioned from a lily,

And the other half from pomegranate blossom and anemones,

And half from a pomegranate's blush,

كأنَّ الهوى قد ضَمَّ من بعد فرقةٍ

كأنَّ الهوى قد ضَمَّ من بعد فرقةٍ

بها خدَّ معشوقٍ إلى خدِّ عاشقِ

بها خدَّ معشوقٍ إلى خدِّ عاشقِ

As though love, after a separation, had joined

As though passion has joined together

Within it a beloved’s cheek to a lover’s cheek.

The lover's cheek to his beloved's.
