وزائرٍ زارَ بعد ياسِ

وزائرٍ زارَ بعد ياسِ

في مقلتَيه سيما النعاسِ

في مقلتَيه سيما النعاسِ

And a visitor came after despair,

A visitor came after despair

In his eyes was the mark of drowsiness.

In his eyes, signs of drowsiness

فقلت يا منتهى مناي

فقلت يا منتهى مناي

ومَن به كان إلتماسي

ومَن به كان إلتماسي

So I said, “O ultimate object of my wishes,

So I said, O object of my wishes

And you who were the object of my quest,

And the one I sought after

أزُرتَ شوقاً فقال كلا

أزُرتَ شوقاً فقال كلا

لكن بروحي لكم مُوَاسِ

لكن بروحي لكم مُوَاسِ

Did you visit out of longing?” He said, “No,

Did you come out of longing? He said no

But I offer you my soul as solace.”

But in my soul is consolation for you
