A gazelle with a mark and wounds

He hunts, so the heart has no escape from him.

تمكَّنتُ منه نظرةً فأذابني

كما ذاب بين الجمرتَينِ رصاصُ

كما ذاب بين الجمرتَينِ رصاصُ

I managed a glance at him, and he melted me,

I looked at him and was melted

As lead melts between the two embers.

وليس عليه حُجَّةٌ في قتيله

وليس عليه حُجَّةٌ في قتيله

وليس عليه في الجروح قِصاصُ

وليس عليه في الجروح قِصاصُ

And there is no case against him for the one he has slain,

He has no case against his victim

Nor is he liable to retribution for the wounds.

Nor compensation for the wounds

أروم خلاصاً من تباريح حبِّه

أروم خلاصاً من تباريح حبِّه

وليس لمثلي من هواه خلاصُ

وليس لمثلي من هواه خلاصُ

I seek escape from the torments of loving him,

I seek salvation from his glances of love

Yet one like me has no escape from passion for him.

But for the likes of me there is no salvation from his love
