A dark-eyed beauty appeared before us in human form;
A dark-eyed houri appeared to us in human form.
She is likened to a sun, though she is lovelier than the sun.
She is likened to a sun, yet she is more radiant than the sun.
أرىI see شخصَهاher presence أُنساًsolace لغيريfor someone other than me فديتُهاmay I be her ransom
أرى شخصَها أُنساً لغيري فديتُها
وذكريand my remembrance لذاكof that الشخصpresence فيin خلوتيmy solitude أُنسيmy solace
وذكري لذاك الشخص في خلوتي أُنسي
I see her presence keeping another company—may I be her ransom—
I see her presence as solace for others—may I be her ransom;
And when I am alone, remembering that person keeps me company.
And my remembrance of that presence in my solitude is my solace.
