I weep for the hero whom

    you covered with heavy rocks.

Girded with his sword, he bears down

on his spear, time after time.

O Sakhr, who is there for the horses when

their riders are driven back in haste,

    clad in rings of iron,

so like camels would you think them in it?

Woe is me for you when there blows

the wind, cold from the north,

    and the bitter-cold cloud-bank—

its clouds brought nothing but drizzle—

    to terrify the people whom

we count among us as dependents.

The best of humankind in hospitality

is Sakhr, and the noblest of them in deeds.

And he is the one hoped for, and the one who

is looked to, and the best of them in bounty.
