It rose above the moisture of the depths and lay lower

than the parched places, and was self-sufficient through its own watering.

So its lower reaches grew dense with acacias and olive trees,

and its upper reaches swayed with date palms and pomegranate trees.

And whoever once reproached him came to envy him,

and a critic who had blamed him over it now longed for it.

O Abu Muawiyah, give thanks for its giver’s generosity,

and whenever you visit it, keep its place of prayer in use.
