وَخَصلَةٍ يُكثِرُ الشَيطانُ إِن ذُكِرَت

وَخَصلَةٍ يُكثِرُ الشَيطانُ إِن ذُكِرَت

مِنها التَعَجُّبَ جاءَت مِن سُلَيمانا

مِنها التَعَجُّبَ جاءَت مِن سُلَيمانا

And a trait—if mentioned, Satan expresses great

A trait the devil oft exploits when named -

astonishment at it—came from Solomon:

Amazement, though from Solomon it came.

لا تَعجَبَنَّ لِخَيرٍ زَلَّ عَن يَدِهِ

لا تَعجَبَنَّ لِخَيرٍ زَلَّ عَن يَدِهِ

فَالكَوكَبُ النَحسُ يَسقي الأَرضَ أَحيانا

فَالكَوكَبُ النَحسُ يَسقي الأَرضَ أَحيانا

Never marvel at a good deed that slipped from his hand,

Marvel ye not if good slips from one's hand,

For the ill-omened star sometimes waters the earth.

For stars malign do water earth, as planned.
