A man lives in hope,
One lives in perpetual hope
repeating it for all eternity.
Repeating it to eternity
يُؤَمِّلُhe hopes for ماwhat يُؤَمِّلُhe hopes for مِنof

صُنوفِkinds المالِwealth وَالوَلَدِand children
He hopes for what he hopes for of
Aspiring for riches and children galore
the many kinds of wealth and children.
Little knowing death may come before tomorrow
وَلاand not يَدريhe knows لَعَلَّperhaps المَوdeath (first part of the split word)
تَcompletion of the split word 'death' يَأَتيcomes دونَbefore بَعدِafter غَدِtomorrow
And he does not know: perhaps death
Leaving behind neither father nor son
will come before the day after tomorrow,
فَلاso not يُبقيit leaves لِوالِدِهِfor his father
وَلاand not يُبقيit spares عَلىupon وَلَدِa child
so it leaves nothing for his father,
nor does it spare any child.
