    By God, I implore you, O kite, O flying bird,

    Carry my greetings to my valiant son,

    Whose stature is proportioned like a roasting spit,

    And when he turns away, a belt covers a third of his back.

    How lovely he is, appearing in a rare form!

    I seek God's forgiveness—peace be upon Aydah.

    وأصدق القول ما قالت حذام

    And his gait is like a dung beetle in Sawarah;

    And the truest words are what Hudham said.

    Yet today he is the most dutiful of our masters,

    In gentleness, in exalted rank, in wondrous disposition.

    If you could see the esteem in which we hold him,

    They would not do so, O lad with the pretty little moustache.

    No longer say in gatherings, “Our master,

    The accomplished, the perfect, the peerless, the discerning.”

    من الفصاحه بيتجشى نظام

    From the pearls of his verse, its beads have fled;

    Out of sheer eloquence, he belches verse.

    And long may you live, O you whom my verse has clothed

    In a buttoned robe—and I have pierced it here.

    وان تقفصت فاخرج يا جنا

    You enter it through the sleeve, from over there;

    And if you crouch, bring out, O imp,

    Half your body and the gussets, from your back.

    And do not clamber up, lest it return to the radiance.

    إروع فديتك توسط في الغرام

    Your purpose in love is already fruitless;

    Take heed, may I be your ransom; be moderate in love.
