قالوا على جهة الاغباء أَغرب من

عَنقاءَ شَكلاً وَهَذا غَير اغباء

عَنقاءَ شَكلاً وَهَذا غَير اغباء

They said, by way of mystification, 'Stranger than

They said that idiocy is stranger than

a phoenix in form'—yet this is no mystification.

The form of a wild giraffe, but this is not idiocy.

فَقُلت لا تَضرِبوا الأَمثال بعدُ بِها

فَقُلت لا تَضرِبوا الأَمثال بعدُ بِها

فَإِن اغرب مِنها عَقل فراء

فَإِن اغرب مِنها عَقل فراء

So I said, 'No longer use it in proverbial comparisons,

So I said do not cite examples anymore with it,

for Farrāʾ's mind is stranger than it.'

For stranger than it is the mind of a genius.
