أَرىI see لِلكَأسَfor the cup حَقّاًa right لاnot أَراهُI see it
أَرى لِلكَأسَ حَقّاً لا أَراهُ
لِغَيرِfor anything other than الكَأسِthe cup إِلّاexcept لِلنَّديمِfor the drinking companion
لِغَيرِ الكَأسِ إِلّا لِلنَّديمِ
I recognize for the cup a right I do not recognize
for anything other than the cup, save the drinking companion.
هُوَhe القَطبُthe axle الَّذيwhich دارَتturned عَلَيهِupon it
هُوَ القَطبُ الَّذي دارَت عَلَيهِ
رَحىmillstone اللَذّاتِthe pleasures فيin الزَمَنِthe time القَديمancient
رَحى اللَذّاتِ في الزَمَنِ القَديم
He is the axle upon which turned
the millstone of pleasures in ancient times.
