    Through the just king Mahmud,

the days have fulfilled what I was promised.

Good fortune has settled me in his shade,

and my fortune's bough is leafy once again.

Whoever does not dwell in his shade

    is surely not fortunate.

And how could a servant of his not prosper,

    dwelling between justice and generosity?

The ships of hope, through his generosity,

have come to rest for us upon al-Judi.

His white blessings, with their brilliance,

    shine in our black nights.

His resolve is renowned among mankind,

and his sword is not sheathed.

And breaching the frontier of unbelief is his custom,

not kissing the lips of a tender maiden.

    The Qur'an's oft-repeated verses sway his shoulders—not

the melody of lute strings and songs.

And on the backs of sleek steeds he finds comfort

that makes him forget union with shy, supple maidens.

You have become a pillar of Islam—and how many

pillars of error you have demolished!

And the abject misery of the sons of polytheism lies in

a banner of victory raised for you.

In al-Sham you raised the edifice of guidance,

with resolve and firmness—what a feat of building!

Without you, there would not rise along its frontiers

banners of faith and God's oneness.

Thus you left in its land no unbeliever

or heretic who was not buried in a grave.

And you left among them no chieftain

who dealt in treachery, save as food for the wolf.

And you have never ceased to slay their champions

    with your illustrious, stalwart troops.

O you who launch raids against gathered foes and bounties,

    gathering praise by scattering both!

I excelled when you were generous to me, and so

my excellence was in keeping with your generosity.

The feast is congratulated on having you, and mankind says:

'Congratulations, Nur al-Din, on the feast!'
