تُوفي العاضدُ الَّعيُّ فما

تُوفي العاضدُ الَّعيُّ فما

يفتحُ ذو بدعةٍ بمصر فما

يفتحُ ذو بدعةٍ بمصر فما

The tongue-tied al-ʿĀḍid died, so no

The unjust Aadid died, and none

heretic in Egypt opens his mouth.

Who innovates in Egypt speaks again.

وعصرُ فرعونها انقضى وغَدا

وعصرُ فرعونها انقضى وغَدا

يوسُفُها في الأَمورِ محتكما

يوسُفُها في الأَمورِ محتكما

And the age of her Pharaoh ended, and

Its Pharaoh's age has passed away,

her Yūsuf became the arbiter of affairs.

Its Joseph now controls affairs.

وانطفأَتْ جمرةُ الغواةِ وقد

وانطفأَتْ جمرةُ الغواةِ وقد

باحَ من الشِّركِ كلّ ما اضطرما

باحَ من الشِّركِ كلّ ما اضطرما

And the ember of the misguided was quenched, and indeed

The embers of the miscreants are doused,

all that blazed with polytheism stood revealed.

All that was kindled of idolatry is quenched.

وصارَ شملُ الصّلاحِ مُلتئماً

وصارَ شملُ الصّلاحِ مُلتئماً

بها وعِقدُ السَّدادِ مُنتظما

بها وعِقدُ السَّدادِ مُنتظما

And the ranks of righteousness were reunited

The unity of righteousness coheres again

within her, and rectitude's necklace was strung in order.

And the necklace of integrity is restrung.

لما غدا مُعلناً شعارُ بني ال

لما غدا مُعلناً شعارُ بني ال

عبّاسِ حقّاً والباطل اكتتما

عبّاسِ حقّاً والباطل اكتتما

When openly proclaimed was the emblem of the sons of al-

When the banner of truth was raised openly

ʿAbbās, in truth, and falsehood hid itself.

By the Abbasids, falsehood hid itself away.

وباتَ داعي التّوحيد منتصراً

وباتَ داعي التّوحيد منتصراً

ومِنْ دُعاةِ الإشراكِ مُنتقما

ومِنْ دُعاةِ الإشراكِ مُنتقما

And the herald of divine oneness became victorious,

The caller to monotheism emerged victorious

and took vengeance on the heralds of polytheism.

And took vengeance on the idolators .

وظلَّ أَهلُ الضَّلالِ في ظللٍ

وظلَّ أَهلُ الضَّلالِ في ظللٍ

داجيةٍ من غيابةٍ وعَمَى

داجيةٍ من غيابةٍ وعَمَى

And the people of error remained amid shadows,

The misguided remained in darknesses

dark with deep gloom and blindness.

Of bewilderment and blindness all the more.

وارتبكَ الجاهلونَ في ظُلَمٍ

وارتبكَ الجاهلونَ في ظُلَمٍ

لما أَضاءَتْ منابرُ العُلما

لما أَضاءَتْ منابرُ العُلما

And the ignorant became entangled in darkness,

The ignorant were lost in endless night

when the scholars' pulpits shone.

When the minbars of knowledge shone their light.

وعادَ بالمستضيءِ مجتهداً

وعادَ بالمستضيءِ مجتهداً

بناءُ حقٍ قد كانَ مُنهدما

بناءُ حقٍ قد كانَ مُنهدما

And through al-Mustaḍīʾ, with earnest striving, rose again

The edifice of truth, once ruined, stands again,

the edifice of truth that had been demolished.

Rebuilt by the enlightened with diligent hands.

واعتلتِ الدولةُ التي اضطهدتْ

واعتلتِ الدولةُ التي اضطهدتْ

وانتصرَ الدِّينُ بعد ما اهُتضما

وانتصرَ الدِّينُ بعد ما اهُتضما

And the dynasty that had been oppressed rose high,

The state that persecuted now staggers and reels,

and the faith triumphed after being wronged.

And the faith prevails after being crushed.

واهتزَّ عِطفُ الإسلامِ من جَذَلٍ

واهتزَّ عِطفُ الإسلامِ من جَذَلٍ

وافترَّ ثغرُ الإيمان وابتسما

وافترَّ ثغرُ الإيمان وابتسما

And Islam's flank swayed with joy,

The bosom of Islam shakes off its melancholy

and faith's mouth parted and smiled.

And the grin of faith grows wide with smiles.

واستبشرتْ أَوجهُ الهُدى فَرَحاً

واستبشرتْ أَوجهُ الهُدى فَرَحاً

فليقرعِ الكفرُ سنَّهُ نَدَما

فليقرعِ الكفرُ سنَّهُ نَدَما

And the faces of guidance rejoiced in gladness,

The faces of guidance are lit up with joy -

so let unbelief strike its tooth in remorse.

So let unbelief knock out its teeth in regret!

عادَ حريمُ الأَعداءِ مُنتهكَ ال

عادَ حريمُ الأَعداءِ مُنتهكَ ال

حمى وفيءُ الطُّغاةِ مُقتَسَما

حمى وفيءُ الطُّغاةِ مُقتَسَما

The enemies' sanctuary became violated in its

The sanctuary of enemies lies breached,

protected bounds, and the tyrants' spoils were divided.

Its booty divided among the victors.

قصورُ أَهلِ القصورِ أَخربها

قصورُ أَهلِ القصورِ أَخربها

عامرُ بيتٍ من الكمالِ سَما

عامرُ بيتٍ من الكمالِ سَما

The palaces of those with shortcomings were laid waste by

The palaces of the arrogant are destroyed

the builder of a house that rose high through perfection.

By the perfect man whose abode is glorious.

أَزعجَ بعدَ السُّكونِ ساكنَها

أَزعجَ بعدَ السُّكونِ ساكنَها

وماتَ ذُلاً وأَنفُهُ رُغِمَا

وماتَ ذُلاً وأَنفُهُ رُغِمَا

He disturbed their dweller after repose;

He disturbed its tranquil dwellers after peace

and the dweller died in humiliation, his nose rubbed in dust.

And it died disgraced with its nose rubbed in the dirt.
