And Jerusalem's ailment had proved intractable before you.

So you supplied a cure for that intractable affliction.

Kings passed on, longing for its conquest,

for a long time, their burning thirst for it unquenched.

And your time came, making possible at last

what had proved impossible in the former age.

Nothing ever was, nor ever will be, like your conquest

of Jerusalem, in the past or the future.

You brought forth from it what mankind had lacked,

and in conquest you did what had not been done.

    طلتمْ به فبلوا لبعضِ الأَنملِ

    The hands of kings fell short of a source of glory;

you rose high through it; they were afflicted—for some fingertips (wording unclear).

You revived the branch of the noble, and still endure

through you the triumph of the just and the subjugation of the unjust.
