If you are seeking sustenance

If you seek provision and wish to attain your goal

And fulfillment of your aim from slave and freeman,

Whether you be slave or free

وتظفر بالذي ترجو سريعاً

وتظفر بالذي ترجو سريعاً

وتأمن من مخالفة وعذر

وتأمن من مخالفة وعذر

And would swiftly attain what you hope for

And you quickly obtain what you hope for

And be safe from opposition and excuses,

And are safe from opposition and excuses

ففاتحة الكتاب فإن فيها

ففاتحة الكتاب فإن فيها

لما أملت سراً أي سر

لما أملت سراً أي سر

Then turn to the Opening of the Book, for within it

Then the Opening Chapter, for in it

Lies a secret for what you hope for—what a secret!

Is, whatever I have dictated, a secret like no other

تلازم درسها عقبى عشاء

تلازم درسها عقبى عشاء

وفي صبح وفي ظهر وعصر

وفي صبح وفي ظهر وعصر

Keep reciting it after the night prayer,

Recite it after the night prayer

And at the dawn, noon, and afternoon prayers,

And in the morning, afternoon, and evening

وعقبي مغرب في كل ليل

وعقبي مغرب في كل ليل

إلى التسعين تتبعها بعشر

إلى التسعين تتبعها بعشر

And after the sunset prayer every night,

And after sunset each night

Up to ninety recitations, then follow them with ten.

Up to ninety, followed by ten more

تنل ما شئت من عز وجاه

تنل ما شئت من عز وجاه

وعظم مهابة وعلو قدر

وعظم مهابة وعلو قدر

You will attain whatever honor and prestige you wish,

You will attain whatever you wish of might and glory

And great reverence and exalted standing,

And great awe and lofty rank

وستر لا تغيره الليالي

وستر لا تغيره الليالي

بحادثة من النقصان تجري

بحادثة من النقصان تجري

And protection that the nights will not alter

And a veil that the nights do not change

Through an event of loss that comes to pass,

With any diminishing event

وتوفيق وأفراح دواماً

وتوفيق وأفراح دواماً

وتأمن من مخاوف كل شر

وتأمن من مخاوف كل شر

And success and joys continually;

And continuous success and joys

And be safe from the terrors of every evil,

And safety from all fears of evil

ومن عري وجوع وانقطاع

ومن عري وجوع وانقطاع

ومن بطش لذي نهي وأمر

ومن بطش لذي نهي وأمر

And from nakedness, hunger, and being cut off,

And from nakedness, hunger, and destitution

And from the violence of one who forbids and commands.

And from the tyranny of one with prohibitions and commands
