In this age there is no generous man

to look to for warding off calamities,

    or for attaining a wish,

    or for bestowing noble favors,

    but you, O best governor

to be called upon, and O best judge.

Consider my plight, by your honor,

    for you know my condition.

    Indeed, al-Imad has shown us

    that he is fasting today.

And he hopes for no reward,

    nor does he fear sins.

And it is not hidden from him

that an oppressor has no valid fast.

And our fasting as we follow

him is the fasting of beasts.

So take for us today from him

our midday meal, against his will.
