كَمْhow often قُلْتُI said لِلأَكْرَمِto al-Akram الْحَشَّاءِal-Hashsha’ أَنْصَحُهُI advise him
كَمْ قُلْتُ لِلأَكْرَمِ الْحَشَّاءِ أَنْصَحُهُ
بأَنَّthat عبدَكَyour servant مُحْتاجٌin need لِلَقَّانِof Laqqan
بأَنَّ عبدَكَ مُحْتاجٌ لِلَقَّانِ
How often I told the generous al-Ḥashshāʾ, as I counseled him:
How often I said to al-Akram al-Hashsha’, advising him:
“Your servant has need of Luqman.”
“Your servant is in need of Laqqan.”
فقالَthen he said عَبْدِيmy servant عِفْرِيتٌan ifrit (powerful jinn) فَقُلْتُso I said لَهُto him
فقالَ عَبْدِي عِفْرِيتٌ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ
إنِّيindeed I أَخافُfear عَلَيْهِfor him مِنْfrom سُلَيْمانِSolomon
إنِّي أَخافُ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ سُلَيْمانِ
He said, “My servant is an ifrit!” So I said to him:
Then he said, “My servant is an ifrit”; so I said to him:
“Indeed, I fear Solomon may come for him.”
“I fear for him at Solomon’s hands.”
