These are the pale camels: we impart our yearning to them, and they respond in sympathy.
She yearns for love, so we excite her longing,
We urge them toward the beloved, and they ascend.
And urge her towards the beloved, so she ascends

The camel-driver reminds them of Taybah's neighbors,
The wanderer reminds her of a good neighbor,
And a yearning seizes them, making them rise and kneel.
So she is seized by lasting, settled longing

And if she hears the cooing of a dove, she remembers
Doves at Sal‘ that spend the night singing.
The markets where doves roost chirping at night

The sweet basil of hearts sways at his mention;
His name was derived from some letters of His name
When he is mentioned, hearts and livers rejoice.
So the Lord of the Throne is Praised and this is Muhammad

He is the one first granted prophethood,
He is called alongside the names of angels and the Most High
While Adam was alone between water and clay.
For he is the highest, purest and most glorious

Thus he had precedence and exalted rank at the Throne,
And he is mentioned in the declarations alongside his Lord
And on earth he had a mission and a birth.
And if the call to prayer says "I bear witness, I bear witness"

A prophet who came while people were in ignorance
As one who is higher, purer, and more glorious.
Worshipping idols spread over the land

His war booty is pilgrimage and Mecca is his Qibla
Unrecognizable after they disobeyed and rebelled.
Dirt is pure and the land is a mosque for him

Through him, and Ibn Mas‘ud, the negligent one, will find happiness.
They seemed like random letters, yet a precious pearl
