لي في الشّجاعةِ سهمٌ ما ضربتُ بهِ

لي في الشّجاعةِ سهمٌ ما ضربتُ بهِ

إلاّ رمى السيفَ قِرْني وهوَ مُنهزمُ

إلاّ رمى السيفَ قِرْني وهوَ مُنهزمُ

In valor I have an arrow; whenever I strike with it,

My skillful archery is unmatched;

My opponent casts away his sword, fleeing in defeat.

Aim my arrows and swords retreat.

والضربُ بالسهمِ لم تنطقْ به لغةٌ

والضربُ بالسهمِ لم تنطقْ به لغةٌ

والرميُ بالسيفِ لم تَسمع بهِ الأمَم

والرميُ بالسيفِ لم تَسمع بهِ الأمَم

And no tongue has spoken of striking with an arrow,

Though silent arrows make no sound,

And the nations have never heard of throwing with a sword.

When swords are drawn, news travels round.
