كأنّهُas though he were بعضُone of غصونِbranches الخِلافْthe willow
I would ransom a gazelle, excessive in defiance;
I ransom a gazelle, so unique in its elegance
As though he were one of the willow's branches.
As if it were a branch of the oleander bush

أخافُI fear منهُof him وعليهِand for him أخافُI fear
A guileless gazelle—his beauty beguiled me;
A graceful, docile gazelle, whose beauty enticed me
I fear him, and I fear for him.
I fear it, yet I fear for it as well
