بعتُ عبداً كان لي سَكَناً

بعتُ عبداً كان لي سَكَناً

وَسكنتُ النارَ من مِحَنِهْ

وَسكنتُ النارَ من مِحَنِهْ

I sold a slave who was my solace,

And dwelt in fire because of his afflictions.

فهو من مغنايَ مُرتحلٌ

فهو من مغنايَ مُرتحلٌ

وأنا الباكي على دِمَنِهْ

وأنا الباكي على دِمَنِهْ

So he departs from my dwelling,

And I weep over the traces of his abode.

قذيتْ عيني مُذ قذيتْ

قذيتْ عيني مُذ قذيتْ

عينُ مِيزانِي من ثَمَنِهْ

عينُ مِيزانِي من ثَمَنِهْ

My eye has smarted from a speck ever since

The eye of my scales caught a speck from his price.
