شَغلتُI occupied بسمعانِّيwith the Samʿānī مروٍof Merv مَسامعيmy ears
فحزتُso I attained المُنىwishes منfrom أَوحدِthe peerless one العصرِthe age فَردِهِits matchless one
I occupied my ears with the Samʿānī of Merv,
I occupied my hearing with a flowing spring,
and so attained my wishes from the age’s peerless one, its matchless man.
So I obtained wishes from the Unique of the Age and its match.
وأُلبستُand I was clothed زيّاًa garment منfrom نسائجِweavings وَشيِهِhis brocade
وقُلِّدتُand I was adorned سمطاًa necklace منfrom جواهِرِjewels عقدِهِhis necklace
And I was clothed in a garment woven from his brocade,
And I was clothed in a garment from the fabrics of its love,
and adorned with a necklace of jewels from his strand.
And I was adorned with a necklace from the jewels of its chain.
وسرَّحتُand I let roam منهfrom him الطرفَthe gaze فيin متواضعٍa humble man
أتىcame نحوَهُtoward him الجبّارُthe mighty one وهْوَwhile he was ابنُthe son عَبْدِهِof his slave
And in him I let my gaze roam over a humble man,
And from it I let my eyes roam freely in humility,
to whom the mighty one came, he being his slave’s son.
The Almighty came toward it while it is the son of His servant.
فباتَso he passed the night عزيزَdignified العيشِliving فيin بيتِthe house عزِّهِof his honor
وظلَّand he passed the day قريرَat peace العَينِthe eye فيin ظلِّthe shade مَجْدِهِof his glory
So he passed the night living in dignity, in the house of his honor,
So the dear life spent the night in the house of its glory,
and passed the day with eyes at peace, in the shade of his glory.
And it remained blissful and gratified in the shade of its magnificence.
