وقلتُ وقد سمعتُ بهِ لصَحْبي

وقلتُ وقد سمعتُ بهِ لصَحْبي

صلُوا بعُرا الذَّميل عُرا الوَجيفِ

صلُوا بعُرا الذَّميل عُرا الوَجيفِ

And, having heard of him, I said to my companions:

I told my companions when I heard the news,

Join the bonds of the easy trot to the bonds of the swift trot.

Pray for Ura, the barren land of grief.

فسرنا ننشّقُ القيَصومَ ورَداً

فسرنا ننشّقُ القيَصومَ ورَداً

ونَحْسو أكؤْسَ السّير الذَّفيفِ

ونَحْسو أكؤْسَ السّير الذَّفيفِ

So we traveled, breathing in yarrow as though it were roses,

We set out to tear the rugged hills asunder

And sipping cups of swift-paced travel.

And drink deep the gentle wine that flows.

وليسَ لنا النّديمُ سوى السعالي

وليسَ لنا النّديمُ سوى السعالي

وليسَ لنا الغناءُ سوى العَزيفِ

وليسَ لنا الغناءُ سوى العَزيفِ

And we had no drinking companion but she-ghouls,

For us there is no laughter or music,

And no song but the eerie cries of jinn.

Only the howling wind and rasping cough.

فما أنْ أنختُ بهِ رِكابي

فما أنْ أنختُ بهِ رِكابي

غَفرتُ جَرائرَ الزَّمنِ العَنيفِ

غَفرتُ جَرائرَ الزَّمنِ العَنيفِ

Then, as soon as I made my riding camels kneel beside him,

When I arrived there on my steed

I forgave the wrongs of cruel Time.

I forgave the bitter sorrows of time.

ولفَّ القُرْبُ بَيْتَيْنا جَميعاً

ولفَّ القُرْبُ بَيْتَيْنا جَميعاً

فنحنُ الآن من بابِ اللّفيفِ

فنحنُ الآن من بابِ اللّفيفِ

And nearness enfolded our two homes together,

Kinship has wrapped both houses together,

So now we fall under the heading of the conjoined.

So we are now as one family.
