حالَthe state الشَجيِّof the grieving one بِبُعدِهِthrough his absence مُتَكَدِّراdistraught
When the beloved vanished from my sight, unaware
of how his absence had left the grieving lover distraught,
نادَيتُهُI called to him وَالدَمعُand the tears مِنيfrom me تَفَجَّراgushed forth
ياO مَنyou who لَهُhe has حُسنٌbeauty يَفوقُsurpasses بِهِwith it الوَرىall mankind
I called to him as tears gushed from me:
O you whose beauty surpasses all mankind,
صِلgrant union to هائِماًa lovesick wanderer قَدindeed ظَلَّhas remained فيكover you مُحَيَّراbewildered
وَاِرحِمand have mercy on عُبَيدَكَyour humble servant قَدindeed أَضَرَّinflicted harm بِهِon him العَناsuffering
Grant union to a lovesick wanderer left bewildered by you,
And pity your humble servant, whom suffering has harmed.
رُحماكَyour mercy رُحماكَyour mercy الكَئيبَthe sorrowful one فَقَدfor indeed فَنىhas wasted away
فاِشفَقso have compassion عَلَيهِon him بِلَحظِكَwith your glance وَالمُنحَنىand the curved form
Your mercy, your mercy upon the sorrowful one—for he has wasted away.
So pity him with your glance and your curved form,
وَاِمنُنand bestow favor عَلَيهِupon him بِقُبلَةwith a kiss تُبريcures الضَنىwasting sickness
إِنif كُنتَyou are تَطمَعُyou hope فيin الهَوىlove أَنto تُؤَجَراbe rewarded
And favor him with a kiss that cures his wasting sickness,
If you hope to be rewarded in love.
