عَلى أَشرَفِ الرُسل الكِرام أَولي القَدر

عَلى أَشرَفِ الرُسل الكِرام أَولي القَدر

صَلاةٌ وَتَسليمٌ يُصانان عَن حَصر

صَلاةٌ وَتَسليمٌ يُصانان عَن حَصر

Upon the noblest of the noble messengers of high rank,

Blessings and peace be upon the best of Messengers, the noblest

be blessings and salutations of peace beyond all reckoning.

Among the noble ranks, beyond enumeration and measure

كَذا آلُهُ الأَطهارُ وَالصحبُ مَن سَموا

كَذا آلُهُ الأَطهارُ وَالصحبُ مَن سَموا

وَمَن شُبِّهوا في الهدي بالأَنجُم الزهر

وَمَن شُبِّهوا في الهدي بالأَنجُم الزهر

Likewise upon his pure family and the Companions who rose to eminence,

And also upon his pure Family and Companions so highly praised

and those likened in guidance to radiant stars;

And those who followed his guidance as the sparkling stars

وَمَن هاجَروا حُباً لَهُ وَكَرامَةً

وَمَن هاجَروا حُباً لَهُ وَكَرامَةً

وَأَنصارُهُ الأَتباعُ في ساعَةِ العُسر

وَأَنصارُهُ الأَتباعُ في ساعَةِ العُسر

and those who emigrated out of love and reverence for him,

And those who out of love emigrated in his cause

and his supporters, the followers in the hour of hardship;

And his Ansar allies in the time of hardship

وَمَن جاهَدوا في اللَه حَق جِهادِهِ

وَمَن جاهَدوا في اللَه حَق جِهادِهِ

وَلا سيَّما أَهلُ الشَهادَةِ في بَدر

وَلا سيَّما أَهلُ الشَهادَةِ في بَدر

and those who strove for God with the striving due to Him,

And those who strove in Allah's way with true jihad

especially those who witnessed Badr.

Especially the martyrs on the day of Badr

هُمُ قَد عَلوا قَدراً وَنالوا مَزيَّةً

هُمُ قَد عَلوا قَدراً وَنالوا مَزيَّةً

وَأَوَّلُ حِزبٍ فَلّ حَدّ ذَوي الكُفر

وَأَوَّلُ حِزبٍ فَلّ حَدّ ذَوي الكُفر

They indeed rose high in rank and gained distinction,

They attained high rank and exceptional merit

and were the first band to blunt the edge of the disbelievers;

As the foremost party, exalted above the disbelievers

وَمَن نَزَلَ الأَملاكُ جَهراً لِنَصرِهِم

وَمَن نَزَلَ الأَملاكُ جَهراً لِنَصرِهِم

فَيا لَكَ مِن عز وَيا لضكَ مِن نَصر

فَيا لَكَ مِن عز وَيا لضكَ مِن نَصر

and those whom the angels descended openly to aid—

And the angels came openly to their aid

what glory, and what victory!

What triumph for you! What victorious help!

وَمَن قيلَ يا بُشراكُم فاِعمَلوا الَّذي

وَمَن قيلَ يا بُشراكُم فاِعمَلوا الَّذي

أَرَدتُم مِنَ الذنب الخَطير أَو النَزر

أَرَدتُم مِنَ الذنب الخَطير أَو النَزر

and those who were told, 'Glad tidings to you! Do whatever

When it was said: Rejoice! Your sins are forgiven

you wish, whether the sin be grave or slight:

Do what you wish, small or grave transgression

فَقَد غُفرَت آثامُكُم وَسَعدتُمُ

فَقَد غُفرَت آثامُكُم وَسَعدتُمُ

وَلَم يَثنهم ما قَد حبوهُ مِنَ الشكر

وَلَم يَثنهم ما قَد حبوهُ مِنَ الشكر

for your sins have been forgiven, and you have found bliss.'

Your sins are pardoned, you have succeeded

And what they had been granted did not turn them from gratitude;

And gratitude did not prevent them from all they desired

وَمَن نَزَلَ الذكرُ الحَكيمُ مُفَصَّلا

وَمَن نَزَلَ الذكرُ الحَكيمُ مُفَصَّلا

بِما خَصّهُم في ذَلِكَ اليَوم مِن ذكر

بِما خَصّهُم في ذَلِكَ اليَوم مِن ذكر

and those for whom the wise Reminder was revealed in detail,

And the Wise Remembrance was sent down to them

concerning the special mention accorded them on that day.

Detailing the honor bestowed on them that day

فَفي آل عِمرانَ اِستَجابَ دُعاهُم

فَفي آل عِمرانَ اِستَجابَ دُعاهُم

وَأذهَبَ في أَنفاله الرجس بالطهر

وَأذهَبَ في أَنفاله الرجس بالطهر

For in Al Imran He answered their prayer,

In Aal Imran their prayer was answered

and in His Al-Anfal He removed defilement through purification;

And in Al-Anfal filth was removed through purification

وَثَبَّتَهُم وَالرعبَ أَلقاهُ في العدى

وَثَبَّتَهُم وَالرعبَ أَلقاهُ في العدى

فأَضحوا حَيارى نَهبَةَ القَتلِ وَالأسر

فأَضحوا حَيارى نَهبَةَ القَتلِ وَالأسر

and He made them steadfast and cast terror into the enemy,

And He made them stand firm, striking terror in the enemy

so they became bewildered, prey to slaying and captivity.

Who became lost, prey to death and captivity

وَأَصبَحَ دينُ اللَه جَذلانَ باسماً

وَأَصبَحَ دينُ اللَه جَذلانَ باسماً

وَأَحزابُهُ تَختالُ في حُلَل النَصر

وَأَحزابُهُ تَختالُ في حُلَل النَصر

And God's religion became jubilant and smiling,

And Allah's religion prevailed, glorious and supreme

and its companies strode proudly in the robes of victory.

While its partisans exulted in the robes of victory

وَكانوا عَلى المَشهور كالرسل عِدَّةً

وَكانوا عَلى المَشهور كالرسل عِدَّةً

وَيَعلَمُ أَهلُ السِر ما فيهِ مِن سِرِّ

وَيَعلَمُ أَهلُ السِر ما فيهِ مِن سِرِّ

And, according to the well-known account, they equaled the messengers in number;

And they were like the Messengers in fame

and those privy to the secret know the mystery it holds.

While the people of secrets know what secrets lie herein

وَقَد جُرِّبَت أَسماؤُهُم عِندَ ذِكرِها

وَقَد جُرِّبَت أَسماؤُهُم عِندَ ذِكرِها

لِتَنفيس مَكروبٍ وَإِنقاذ مُضطَرِّ

لِتَنفيس مَكروبٍ وَإِنقاذ مُضطَرِّ

And their names have been tested, when recited,

And their names have been tested when invoked

to relieve the distressed and rescue those in dire need,

To relieve distress and rescue the desperate

وَغَوثاً لِمَلهُوفٍ وَعَوناً لِطالِبٍ

وَغَوثاً لِمَلهُوفٍ وَعَوناً لِطالِبٍ

وَأَمناً لذي ذُعرٍ وَيُسراً لِذي عُسر

وَأَمناً لذي ذُعرٍ وَيُسراً لِذي عُسر

and as succor for the anguished and help for the seeker,

And give aid to the anxious and support the seeker

and as safety for the fearful and ease for those in hardship.

Security to the frightened and ease to the suffering

وَكَم مِن عَويصاتٍ تَجَلَّت بِذِكرِهِم

وَكَم مِن عَويصاتٍ تَجَلَّت بِذِكرِهِم

وَكَم مِن كَسيرِ القَلبِ أَصبَحَ في جَبر

وَكَم مِن كَسيرِ القَلبِ أَصبَحَ في جَبر

And how many baffling problems became clear through mentioning them,

And how many tribulations have been resolved by invoking them

and how many a brokenhearted one has found healing!

And sorrows assuaged and broken hearts restored

فَلازَمُهُمُ سَرداً وَحَملاً تَنَل بِهِم

فَلازَمُهُمُ سَرداً وَحَملاً تَنَل بِهِم

مُناكَ وَما تَرجوهُ في السِرِّ وَالجَهرِ

مُناكَ وَما تَرجوهُ في السِرِّ وَالجَهرِ

So keep to them, reciting and carrying their names; through them attain

So make it a habit to remember them always

your wishes and what you hope for, in secret and openly.

In public and private, to attain all you hope for

أَلا يا رَسولَ اللَهِ يا خَيرَ شافِعٍ

أَلا يا رَسولَ اللَهِ يا خَيرَ شافِعٍ

وَمَن فَضلُهُ يَربو عَلى الرَملِ وَالقَطرِ

وَمَن فَضلُهُ يَربو عَلى الرَملِ وَالقَطرِ

Lo, O Messenger of God, O best of intercessors,

O Messenger of Allah! O best intercessor

and you whose excellence exceeds the grains of sand and the raindrops;

Your excellence towers over all else

وَيا خَيرَ مِن أم العَصاةُ جَنابَهُ

وَيا خَيرَ مِن أم العَصاةُ جَنابَهُ

فَقابَلَهُم بِالعَفو وَالصفح وَالبشر

فَقابَلَهُم بِالعَفو وَالصفح وَالبشر

and O best of those whose presence sinners sought,

O best of those whose side the sinners approached

who then received them with pardon, forbearance, and a cheerful welcome:

Yet you met them with pardon, clemency and good news

أَتَيتُكَ يا كَهفَ الوَرى مُتَوَسِّلا

أَتَيتُكَ يا كَهفَ الوَرى مُتَوَسِّلا

بِهِم وَبِجَمع الصحب مَع آلك الطهر

بِهِم وَبِجَمع الصحب مَع آلك الطهر

I have come to you, O humankind's cave of refuge, seeking intercession

I come to you, O cave of creation, as a supplicant

through them and the whole company of Companions, with your pure family.

Through them and the companions and your Family, the pure

تَوَجَّه إِلى مَولاكَ في حَلِّ مُشكلي

تَوَجَّه إِلى مَولاكَ في حَلِّ مُشكلي

وَتَفريج ما يَدريهِ في القَلبِ وَالصَدرِ

وَتَفريج ما يَدريهِ في القَلبِ وَالصَدرِ

Turn to your Lord for the resolution of my difficulty,

Intercede with your Lord to resolve my difficulties

and for relief from what He knows is in my heart and breast.

And relieve my heart and breast of all sorrow

وَيَغفِرُ لي ما أَثقَلَ الظَهرَ حَمله

وَيَغفِرُ لي ما أَثقَلَ الظَهرَ حَمله

وَيَستُرُ لي الباقي إِلىَ آخِرِ العُمرِ

وَيَستُرُ لي الباقي إِلىَ آخِرِ العُمرِ

And may He forgive me that whose burden has weighed down my back,

And forgive what heavily weighs down my back

and conceal for me what remains until life's end;

And conceal the rest until the end of my life

وَيُسعضد في الدارَين مُنتَصِرٌ بِكُم

وَيُسعضد في الدارَين مُنتَصِرٌ بِكُم

عَلى كُرَب الأَيّامِ مَع نوَب الدَهرِ

عَلى كُرَب الأَيّامِ مَع نوَب الدَهرِ

and may one find happiness in both abodes, victorious through you,

And grant me victory in both worlds with your support

over the sorrows of days and the calamities of time.

Against life's sorrows and the turns of time

وَيُصلحُ حالَ المؤمنينَ بأسرهم

وَيُصلحُ حالَ المؤمنينَ بأسرهم

وَيُبَدِلُهُم مِن حالَة العُسرِ باليُسرِ

وَيُبَدِلُهُم مِن حالَة العُسرِ باليُسرِ

And may He set right the condition of all believers,

And set right the state of all believers

and replace their state of hardship with ease.

Replacing their hardship with comfort and ease

وَصَلّى عَلَيكَ اللَهُ ما هَبَّت الصبا

وَصَلّى عَلَيكَ اللَهُ ما هَبَّت الصبا

وَما نورَت حُلكُ الدجُنَّة بالبَدرِ

وَما نورَت حُلكُ الدجُنَّة بالبَدرِ

And may God bless you as long as the east wind blows,

May Allah bless you as long as the breeze blows

and as long as night's blackness is illumined by the full moon;

And as long as the stars shine in the dark night sky

وَآلك وَالأَصحاب مَع تابعيهم

وَآلك وَالأَصحاب مَع تابعيهم

وَلا سيَّما رُكني وَحصني أُولي بَدرِ

وَلا سيَّما رُكني وَحصني أُولي بَدرِ

and your family and the Companions, together with their followers,

And your Family and Companions and their followers

especially my pillar and my fortress, the people of Badr.

Especially the two pillars and fortress of Badr
