حَرامٌforbidden عَلىto جَفنيmy eyelid المَنامُsleep وَأنand that يُرىbe seen

Sleep is forbidden to my eyelid, as is the sight of
Sleep is forbidden to my eyes though my love
my passion turning away from love of her dusky lips.
Turns from the craving of the red lips.
تُمازِجُmingles with كأسيmy cup مِنof دُموعٍtears كَخَدِّهاlike her cheek
وَتَجريand flow عُيونٌsprings مِنfrom عُيونٍeyes عَلىover صَدريmy chest
Tears like her cheek mingle with my cup,
My cup mingles with tears like her cheeks
And springs flow from eyes over my chest.
And eyes flow from eyes upon my breast.
يَميناًan oath بِذاكَby that الوَردِthe rose وَالدَعجand the eyes' deep blackness وَاللَمىand the lips' dusky hue
وَبِالمُنحَنىand by the curve وَالمُرهَفاتِand the keen blades وَبِالخِصرِand by the waist
I swear by that rose, the eyes' deep blackness, and the lips' dusky hue,
With that rose and down and gleam
And by the curve, the keen blades, and the waist:
And the bending and the fluttering and the waist,
فَإِنّيfor indeed I عَلىupon العَهدِthe pledge القَديمِold وَحَبَّذاand how lovely!
وَمَنand who ليfor me بِمَطلعِwith the rising of الثُرَيّاthe Pleiades مَعَwith الفَجرِthe dawn
For I remain faithful to the old pledge—and how lovely!
For I keep the old pact and good fortune,
And who will grant me the rising of the Pleiades with the dawn?
If with the Pleiades daybreak appears to me.
تَلوحُshe gleams وَقَلبيand my heart فيin جَمالِهاher beauty مُنعِمٌenjoying bliss
وَنُمسيand we spend the evening بِهاwith her فيin نَحرِهاher bosom وَهيَwhile she فيin نَحريmy bosom
She gleams, and my heart revels in her beauty,
Her beauty promises and my heart exults,
And we spend the evening with her, in her bosom, while she is in mine.
And we sleep in each other's breast and throat.
