ياO نَسيمَbreeze الرياضِthe gardens هَذاthis one عَليلٌailing
يا نَسيمَ الرياضِ هَذا عَليلٌ
وَمُحِبّand a lover تُبَلِّغينَyou convey سَلامَهhis greeting
وَمُحِبّ تُبَلِّغينَ سَلامَه
O breeze of the gardens, here is an ailing man,
O breeze of the gardens, this one is ailing,
a lover—carry his greeting onward.
And a lover whose greeting you convey.
وَتَلَطَّفand be gentle فيin بَذلِoffering عُذرِan excuse مُحِبّa lover
وَتَلَطَّف في بَذلِ عُذرِ مُحِبّ
وَلتَقُلand say لِلَّذيto the one who يَقولutters سَلامَهhis greeting
وَلتَقُل لِلَّذي يَقول سَلامَه
Be gentle as you offer a lover’s excuse,
And be gentle in offering a lover's excuse,
and speak to the one for whom he utters his greeting—
And say to the one who utters his greeting,
الإِمامthe imam الهُمامُthe valiant بَدرُfull moon الدَياجيthe dark nights
الإِمام الهُمامُ بَدرُ الدَياجي
حُجَّةُauthority العَصرِthe age شَيخُناour shaykh ابنُson of سَلامَهSalāmah
حُجَّةُ العَصرِ شَيخُنا ابنُ سَلامَه
the dauntless imam, the full moon of dark nights,
The valiant imam, full moon of the dark nights,
the proof of the age, our shaykh Ibn Salāma.
The authority of the age, our shaykh Ibn Salāmah:
فَأَناfor I فيin الوَفاءِfaithfulness مِثلُlike يَزيدٍYazīd
فَأَنا في الوَفاءِ مِثلُ يَزيدٍ
حينَwhen لاموهthey reproached him فيfor هَواهُhis love سَلامَهSalāmah
حينَ لاموه في هَواهُ سَلامَه
For in faithfulness I am like Yazīd,
For in faithfulness I am like Yazīd,
when they reproached him for his love of Salāma.
When they reproached him for his love of Salāmah.
بَشِّريgive glad tidings سَيِّديmy master بِنَيلِof attaining الأَمانيthe wishes
بَشِّري سَيِّدي بِنَيلِ الأَماني
فالتَهانيfor the congratulations قَدalready أَقبَلَتhave arrived وَالسَلامَهand well-being
فالتَهاني قَد أَقبَلَت وَالسَلامَه
Give my master glad tidings of attaining his hopes;
Give my master glad tidings of wishes fulfilled;
for congratulations have come—and well-being too.
For congratulations and well-being have already arrived.
