فَدَيتُكَI would ransom you بِالأَموالِwith wealth وَالآلِand kin وَالأَهلِand family
وَعِشتَand may you live قَريرَcontented العَينِthe eye فَرداًunique بِلاwithout مِثلِequal
I would ransom you with wealth, kin, and family;
I would ransom you with wealth, family, and loved ones
and may you live with eyes at ease, unique and without equal.
And you lived, delight of my eye, unique with no equal
ذَكَرتَyou mentioned اِشتياقاًlonging ثُمَّthen أَعقَبتَyou followed up بَعدَهُafter it
بِعاداًseparation وَأَبدَلتَand you substituted القَطيعَةَestrangement بِالوَصلِfor closeness
You spoke of longing, then followed it
You recalled longing, then after it
with separation, and substituted estrangement for closeness.
Came estrangement, and you replaced unity with separation
فَهَلso, are…? أَنتَyou مِمَّنamong those who يَدّعيprofesses الشَوقَlonging قَلبُهُhis heart
وَيَحتَجّand offers an excuse فيfor تَركِomitting الزيارَةِvisiting بِالشغلِon grounds of busyness
So are you among those whose hearts profess longing,
So are you one whose heart claims yearning
yet plead busyness as an excuse for not visiting?
And makes excuses for not visiting, with preoccupation?
