    مَزَجَ السَحابُ ضِياءَهُ بِظَلامِ

    A day surpassing other days in excellence;

    The clouds have mixed its light with darkness.

    And lightning flutters like a lovesick heart,

    And the clouds weep like a tear-streaming eyelid.

    And the earth’s face seems a lovesick lover’s cheek,

    The flow of his tears joined with pouring rain.

    So seek four things for your day—they are all one desires—

    And through them the pleasure of days is made pure:

    The beloved’s face, and a commanding view,

    And a singer singing melodiously, and a cup of wine.
