تَجانَفَturned away رَضْوانُRidwan عَنْfrom ضَيْفِهِhis guest
أَلَمْhave ... not? تَأْتِreached رَضْوانَRidwan مِنِّيfrom me النُّذُرْthe warnings
Ridwan turned away from his guest.
Have my warnings not reached Ridwan?
بِحَسْبِكَit is enough for you فِيamong الْقَوْمِthe people أَنْthat يَعْلَمُواthey know
بِأَنَّكَthat you فِيهِمْamong them غَنِيٌّwealthy مُضِرّْharmful
It is enough that the people know
that you are wealthy and harmful among them.
وَقَدْand indeed عَلِمَlearned الْمَعْشَرُthe company الطَّارِقُونَthe night visitors
بِأَنَّكَthat you لِلضَّيْفِfor the guest جُوعٌhunger وَقُرّْand cold
The company of night visitors has learned
that for a guest, you are hunger and cold.
وَأَنْتَand you are مَلِيخٌbland كَلَحْمِlike the flesh of الْحُوارِthe young camel
فَلاso neither أَنْتَyou are حُلْوٌsweet وَلاnor أَنْتَyou are مُرّْbitter
You are bland, like the flesh of a young camel:
neither sweet nor bitter.
إِذاwhen ماever انْتَدَىgathered الْقَوْمُthe people لَمْdid not تَأْتِهِمْcome to them
كَأَنَّكَas though you قَدْindeed وَلَدَتْكَhad borne you الْحُمُرْthe donkeys
Whenever the people gather, you do not join them,
as though donkeys had borne you.
وَلَكِنَّbut رَضْوانَRidwan مِنْout of لُؤْمِهِhis baseness
بَخِيلٌstingy عَلَىwith كُلِّevery خَيْرٍgood وَشَرّْand evil
But Ridwan, in his baseness,
is stingy with every good and evil.
