إِنّي وَجَدتُ أَبا الخَنساءِ خَيرَهُمُ

إِنّي وَجَدتُ أَبا الخَنساءِ خَيرَهُمُ

فَقَد صَدَقتُ لَهُ مَدحي وَتَمجيدي

فَقَد صَدَقتُ لَهُ مَدحي وَتَمجيدي

Indeed, I have found Abū al-Khansāʾ the best of them.

I found Abu Khansa to be the best of them,

So I have been truthful in my praise and exaltation of him.

So I spoke the truth in my praise and glorification of him.

إِنَّ عِداتِكَ إِيّانا لَآتِيَةٌ

إِنَّ عِداتِكَ إِيّانا لَآتِيَةٌ

حَقّاً وَطَيِّبَةٌ ما نَفسُ مَوعودِ

حَقّاً وَطَيِّبَةٌ ما نَفسُ مَوعودِ

Indeed, your promises to us will surely come to pass,

Your promises to us will surely come,

Truly; and glad indeed is the soul of one given a promise.

Truly good, as long as this soul is promised.

ما فَوقَ بَيتِكَ مِن بَيتٍ عَلِمتُ بِهِ

ما فَوقَ بَيتِكَ مِن بَيتٍ عَلِمتُ بِهِ

وَفي أَرومَتِهِ ما مَنبِتُ العودِ

وَفي أَرومَتِهِ ما مَنبِتُ العودِ

No house I know of stands above your house,

I know of no house superior to yours,

And in its rootstock, indeed, lies the branch’s growing place.

Nor of any land that produces fragrant wood like yours.
