وَماand never حُمِّلَwas made to bear الإِنسانُthe human being مِثلَthe like of أَمانَةٍa trust
أَشَقَّmore arduous عَلَهيِupon him حينَwhen يَحمِلُهاhe carries it حِملاas a burden
No person has been made to bear anything like a trust—
No burden was placed on man like faithfulness,
a burden more arduous for him when he carries it.
Which has weighed on him heavily since he bore it.
فَإِنso if أَنتَyou حُمِّلتَyou were made to bear الأَمانَةَthe trust فَاصطَبرthen be steadfast
عَلَيهاin bearing it فَقَدfor indeed حُمِّلتَyou have been made to bear مِنfrom أَمرِهاits responsibility ثِقلاa heavy burden
So if you are charged with a trust, be steadfast
If you were burdened with faithfulness, endure it,
in bearing it, for you have been made to bear its heavy burden.
For you were charged with a weighty matter.

And never accept malicious gossip about someone you approve of,
And do not accept from those you approve backbiting,
and tell whoever comes to you bearing it, ‘Not so fast!’
And say to those who carry tales to you: wait a moment!
