رَطلانِ لا أزداد فَوقَهما

رَطلانِ لا أزداد فَوقَهما

في الشرب إن حَضَروا وإن وَحدي

في الشرب إن حَضَروا وإن وَحدي

Two ratls—I take no more than those

Two ratls - I drink no more,

in drinking, whether they are present or I am alone.

Whether friends attend me, or I'm lonely.

فَليَغتَفِر لي مَن يُنادمني

فَليَغتَفِر لي مَن يُنادمني

أنِّي أُحِبُّ عواقِبَ الرُّشدِ

أنِّي أُحِبُّ عواقِبَ الرُّشدِ

So let whoever drinks with me forgive me

Then let him pardon me who shares my revels

for loving the outcomes of sound judgment.

If wisdom's fairest consequences I pursue,

وأُريدُ ما يَقوَى بهِ بَدَني

وأُريدُ ما يَقوَى بهِ بَدَني

وأُجانِبُ الأمرَ الذي يُردي

وأُجانِبُ الأمرَ الذي يُردي

And I want what strengthens my body,

Seeking what fortifies my body best,

and I shun whatever brings ruin.

And every act that leads to ruin shun.
