هَجَرتُكَI forsook you لَمّاnot yet أَهجُركَI forsake you مِنout of كُفرِingratitude for نَعمَةٍa favor
وُهَلand can يُرتَجىbe hoped for نَيلُattainment of الزِيادَةِan increase بِالكُفرِthrough ingratitude
I have forsaken you—not out of ingratitude for a favor.
And can one hope to gain more through ingratitude?
وَلكِنَّنيbut I لَمّاwhen أَتَيتُكَI came to you زائِراًas a visitor
وَأَفرَطتَand you were lavish فيin بِرّيkindness to me عَجَزتَyou were unable عَنِto الشُكرِgive thanks
But when I came to you as a visitor,
And you lavished kindness upon me, you were unable to give thanks.
فَمِso, from الآنَnow لاnot آتيكَI come to you إِلّاexcept مُسَلِّماًoffering greetings
أَزورُكَI visit you فيin الشَهرَينِthe two months يَوماًone day أَوِor الشَهرِthe month
So from now on, I come to you only to offer greetings.
I visit you one day every two months, or every month.
فَإِنso if زِدتَنيyou grant me more بِرّاًkindness تَزَيَّدتُI increase جَفوَةًin estrangement
فَلاthen not نَلتَقيwe meet طولَthroughout الحَياةِlife إِلىuntil الحَشرِthe Resurrection
So if you show me greater kindness, I grow more distant.
Then we shall not meet throughout our lives, until the Resurrection.
