  1. تأمل خليلي هل ترى من ظعائن

    بذي السرح أو وادي غران المصوّبِ

    Look closely, my friend: do you see any women in howdahs

    At Dhu al-Sarh or in Ghuran’s downward-sloping valley?

  2. جزعن غرانا بعدما متع الضحى

    على كل موار الملاط مذربِ

    They crossed Ghuran after the forenoon sun had risen high,

    On each swift camel, its flanks swaying.
