You have enjoined upon me, O my lord, a pilgrimage
You have imposed upon me, O my Master, a pilgrimage
To the Ancient House, in which there is light.
To the Ancient House, wherein is light

And for the old man, crooked-footed and poor, to traverse
And the Sheikh journeyed to Hanif in poverty
Paths fraught with deadly peril is delusion.
Along paths of perilous illusion

And before the House, from the two mountains of Zarud,
And below the House are two mountains to be traversed
Lie paths, with al-Habir between them and me.
Paths below them are destruction for me
فلاfor no رجلينtwo legs تحملنيcarry me فأمشيso I may walk
فلا رجلين تحملني فأمشي
ولاand no مالmoney فيحملنيso it may carry me بعيرa camel
ولا مال فيحملني بعير
For I have no legs to carry me so that I may walk,
So neither do my feet carry me that I may walk
Nor money to have a camel carry me.
Nor wealth that a camel may carry me
