  1. من كفاه من مساعيه

    رغيف يكتفيه

    Whoever has enough from his labors—

    a loaf he finds sufficient—

  2. وله بيت يواريه

    وثوب يكتسيه

    and has a house to shelter him,

    and a garment he wears,

  3. فلماذا يبذل الوجه

    إلى نذل سفيه

    why, then, should he offer his face

    to a base, foolish man?

  4. وله زوج ومال

    ومتاع يقتنيه

    And he has a wife and wealth,

    and possessions he acquires.

  5. فالمنايا والرزايا طال

    بات بلا تمويه

    For death and calamities are pursu-

    -ers, without disguise.
