نوافي مرّة ونغيب أخرى

ويوشك أن نغب فلا نوافي

We come one time and are absent another;

We meet once and we are absent another time,

And soon we may go away, never to return.

And we are about to be absent, so we do not meet again.

وكلّ اثنين مجتمعين يوما

وكلّ اثنين مجتمعين يوما

على عيش تحفّ به العوافي

على عيش تحفّ به العوافي

And any two united one day,

And every two gathered together one day,

In a life surrounded by well-being,

On a livelihood surrounded by misfortunes.

فيوشك أن تشتّهمُ الليالي

فيوشك أن تشتّهمُ الليالي

بموت أو بين أو خلاف

بموت أو بين أو خلاف

May soon be scattered by the nights,

So the nights are about to long for them,

By death, or separation, or discord.

With death or separation or disagreement.
