يهنونني بالعيد والعيد عندهم

يهنونني بالعيد والعيد عندهم

فعندي لهُ اسم وعندهم المعنى

فعندي لهُ اسم وعندهم المعنى

They congratulate me on Eid, and Eid is theirs;

They congratulate me on Eid though they possess its meaning

For me it is a name; for them, the meaning.

For me it's but a name while for them it has significance

لباسي يوم العيد لبسيَ قبلهُ

لباسي يوم العيد لبسيَ قبلهُ

وأكليَ باليُسرى كأكليَ باليُمنى

وأكليَ باليُسرى كأكليَ باليُمنى

My clothing on Eid is what I wore before it;

My Eid clothes I've worn before it

And I eat with my left hand just as I eat with my right.

And ate with my left like I ate with my right

وسيّان عندي العيد واليوم قبله

وسيّان عندي العيد واليوم قبله

إذا لم يجللني من النعم الحُسنى

إذا لم يجللني من النعم الحُسنى

And Eid and the day before it are the same to me,

For me Eid and the day before are the same

If no fair blessings enfold me.

If I am not endowed with blessings sublime
