وبالدمع فضّاحا حالما في السرائر

Passion suffices as humiliation, and gray hair as an admonisher,

Enough that passion is a guide, while gray hair preaches wisdom,

And tears as an exposer, dreaming amid innermost secrets.

And tears betray secrets held deeply within.

إذا شبت فاستحي من الله لا تكن

When youth takes hold, be shy before God, and do not be

Of the character of the brazen beginner.

Like one who ventures boldly with vices newly begun.
