لست تدري ماذا يصيبك منه

لست تدري ماذا يصيبك منه

O man, never utter a word

O man, do not utter words

Without knowing what may befall you from it.

You know not what may come of them

أخرّ القول إن في الصمت حكما

أخرّ القول إن في الصمت حكما

وإذا أنت قلت قولا فزنه

وإذا أنت قلت قولا فزنه

Defer speech, for there is wisdom in silence;

Postpone your words, for in silence there is wisdom

And when you utter a word, weigh it.

If you must speak, ponder your words

وإذا الناس أمنعوا في حديث

وإذا الناس أمنعوا في حديث

ليس مما يعبا به فاله عنه

ليس مما يعبا به فاله عنه

And when people delve into a conversation

When people chatter idly,

Unworthy of attention, turn away from it.

Of things that do not concern them, leave them be
