None have afflicted me but the noble among the

None but the noblest people adorn me,

people, whether friend or boon companion.

Among both friends and casual companions.

عاملوني بالمجد والجود ظرفا

عاملوني بالمجد والجود ظرفا

ثمّ عادوا عليّ بالتعظيم

ثمّ عادوا عليّ بالتعظيم

They treated me with nobility and generosity, graciously,

They treat me with glory and generosity,

then bestowed further honor on me.

Then return to exalt me.

فتوَطّيت للبريّة حتى

فتوَطّيت للبريّة حتى

دخل النذل من طريق الكريم

دخل النذل من طريق الكريم

So I made myself approachable to all humanity, until

So I aspire to nobility, until

the base man entered by the noble man's path.

Meanness takes the path of honor.
