    Indeed I marvel—and marvels are many—

    At an envious man who desires an envious man's punishment.

    يتباينون بناقص أو زائد

    The malady is shared, and all are envious;

    They differ in having less of it or more.

    Or at one who condemns a sin yet commits its like,

    Marveling at a sinner or a corrupt person.

    And among the marvels—a vexation that makes one laugh—

    Is the rich man's arrogance toward the poor ascetic.
