إذا جفا صاحب ولم نره

يرضيك فعلا بطيب لافظه

يرضيك فعلا بطيب لافظه

If a companion turns cold, and we do not see him

When a friend is unkind and you do not see him,

please you in deed, for all the sweetness of his tongue,

Let his sweet words appease you,

فأقرأ عسى ربّه وحسبك ما

فأقرأ عسى ربّه وحسبك ما

بيّنه الله من مواعظه

بيّنه الله من مواعظه

then read 'Perhaps his Lord'; enough for you is what

Read to him, maybe his Lord will guide him,

God has made clear in His admonitions.

It is enough what Allah has clarified in His preachings,

فرُبّ شيء أو ليتهُ ثقةً

فرُبّ شيء أو ليتهُ ثقةً

عندك لم تكفَ شرّ حافظه

عندك لم تكفَ شرّ حافظه

For many a thing you entrusted to someone trustworthy

Many things, I wish, were trust in you,

in your eyes, yet you were not spared its keeper's harm.

That did not stop the evil of their keepers.
