Enamored with worries and sorrow

قلت همّي أنني رجل

مولع بالفكر والفطن

I said, “My trouble is that I am a man

I said my concern is that I am a man

absorbed in thought and discernment.

Enamored with thought and wisdom

لم أجد في الناس لي سكنا

لم أجد في الناس لي سكنا

منصفا في السر والعلن

منصفا في السر والعلن

I found no comforting companion among people

I did not find in people a home for me

who is fair in private and in public.

Fair in secret and openly

فانفرادي أنني رجل

فانفرادي أنني رجل

قلة الإنصاف أفردني

قلة الإنصاف أفردني

So I am solitary because I am a man

So my seclusion is that I am a man

whom lack of fairness has left alone.”

The scarcity of fairness singled me out
