  1. أقسم بالجيد وفوق الجيد

    وفرحة الوصل على الصدود

    I swear by the neck and what is above the neck,

    and by the joy of union despite rejection,

  2. أن لو حفظت العلم بالمجهود

    حتّى ترى فيه بلا مزيد

    that even if you memorized knowledge through toil,

    until you were regarded as beyond improvement in it,

  3. ما كنت إلا طبل يوم العيد

    you would be nothing but a drum on Eid day.
