بعت الجهالة بالأصالة

وعدلت عن طرق البطاله

I sold ignorance for sound judgment,

I sold ignorance as authenticity

And turned away from the paths of idleness.

And strayed from the paths of idleness

فنظرت عن عين البصي

فنظرت عن عين البصي

رة والإصابة لا محاله

رة والإصابة لا محاله

So I looked through the eye of in-

So I looked with the eye of insight

sight and right judgment, without fail.

And hitting the mark was inevitable

مضت الشبيبة والغنى

مضت الشبيبة والغنى

فعدلت عن سبل الجهاله

فعدلت عن سبل الجهاله

Youth and wealth have passed away,

Youth and riches have passed

So I turned away from the ways of ignorance.

So I strayed from the ways of ignorance
